The Mlinar Bakery designed by ORO design & architecture highlights modern elements while consolidating clues of rustic decor.
Famous for its Italian food and pastries, Mlinar bakery and expresso is a modern patisserie with minimalist interiors that display a variety of baked goods. The cafe located inside Westfield Shopping Centre in Sydney, boasts an open kitchen so as to connect with its customers.
The place which was previously a ramp was renovated by the ORO Architects to accommodate seating area for 30 persons including cooking and storage spaces. The desserts displayed in large glass cases sit atop of a white stone counter space whose base in finished up in recycled timber slates. The hanging plants and vintage style lamps add in a cosy atmosphere to this gastronomical delightful place.
Rustic and vintage style elements
From the designers –
ORO design & architecture successfully fuse design and functionality to create this stunning Mlinar Bakery. A cozy atmosphere was achieved with the use of greenery, wicker lamps, a vibrant blue backdrop for signage and aged copper accents, which provide an industrial touch. To achieve this completed design our client gave us full creative control over the design from start to finish. At the time of design in 2017 the trend of rustic and vintage styling was continuing to dominate designs however we wanted to move away from a typical dark industrial look which is why we combined modern elements to brighten up the space whilst incorporating hints of industrial design.
Floor plan – Mlinar Bakery
Another important aspect of this design was creating an open kitchen that allows customers to witness the fresh food being prepared daily. We achieved this by incorporating an open window between the kitchen and customer seating area, which enhances the cozy atmosphere and includes customers in the baking experience.
The open kitchen window
The site did not come without its challenges. The floor was not level as it was previously a ramp. The high ceiling which was designed to create a bright and cozy space was a challenging aspect that was well managed by the builder. The back wall features a mirror with an intricate white frame, which was a delicate job with a fantastic outcome !
