An awe-inspiring backdrop of the Indian ocean and contemporary design unite in the Summer house designed by A-design Studio based in Sri Lanka.
The stunning home offers the boundaries of ordinary living and incredibly beautiful views of the ocean, open sky and natural landscape. Located along the Colombo-Galle main road in Ambalangoda district, the villa gives its residents an unobstructed ocean view from almost every room. A-design studio designed this private residence which includes five generously proportioned bedrooms, complete with beautiful en-suite bathrooms, private terraces, lounge and bar area. Finished in subtle colors and raw textures, this contemporary style villa is a conscious effort to bring the outdoors to indoors.

From the Architect office –
The soft clean lines, the subtle textures of the surfaces reflect the simplicity of the minimalistic architectural design of this modern beach villa in the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The Summer House consists of two-floor levels with open living and dining spaces, 4 standard en-suite bedrooms, a master suite, a roof terrace lounge and bar.
Ground and first floor layout
All inhabited spaces are provided with an infinite view of the ocean with the use of tall glazed windows. The framework of the windows is of white aluminium powder coat finish, which blends in with its neutral surrounding. The white interior and exterior finishes to the villa in Ambalangoda and its minimalist landscape completes the overall tropical feel. The introduction of the open courtyard adjoining the living room maintains the flow of daylight enhancing the natural brightness within the space.
Cut cement titanium seamless floors with built-in naturally stained timber furniture break away from the solid white effect of the villa and adds a sense of warmth to the spaces.
Cosy living room
The white tiled infinity pool placed perpendicular to the ocean is slightly elevated above ground to provide a perfect eye level view of the ocean waves breaking against the golden sandy seashore.

Rattan fused loose furniture pieces mixed with upholstered seating and rustic timber table tops placed snug together, finished with earthed toned covers creates cozy indoor living and dining spaces. The soothing cut cement seamless floors are used in all living spaces to maintain a beach front look and feel.

Dining area of ground floor
The Dining Table of 8 sits a step above the ground floor living room with a grand view of the ocean. The solid timber table with upholstered seating is fused with color by the use of warm toned canvas painting.
Terrace attached to bedroom
The bedrooms consist of a single unit of study/ bed/ language rack combination made with concrete and finished with natural stained timber edging. The designs of the bedrooms are kept minimal to maintain the overall open feel of the room.
